What Kind Of Learning Style Do You Have?
School was torture for me. As a young boy who couldn't sit still for more than 5 minutes or keep focused in math class because all I wanted to do is practice Kung Fu and read comic books, school wasn't a pleasant experience.
It wasn't until I was much older did I discover a love for learning (despite the education system trying to stomp it out of me) and discovered that there were other ways to learn besides sitting at a desk for 8 hours, listening to what some would equate to Chinese Water Torture.
I probably would have been diagnosed with ADHD……thankfully the condition wasn't invented until I was older.
I discovered that for my learning style, kinesthetic, school wasn't a kind place. I figured out for myself years later that I needed to move to think. Even when writing, if an idea pops into my head, I need to get up and start walking around in order to wrap my thoughts around it. My kids laugh when they see me pacing around the house, they know i'm thinking about something.
Understanding your learning style is important in figuring out the best way to absorb information in a way that works for you. If you have children, it's absolutely vital to understand how your children learn so you can put them in a learning environment where they can flourish. The education system won't take the time to do that for you.
Below is a cool little infographic that describes the different learning styles people have and suggestions on how to take advantage of each style. Thank you to the folks over at Onlinecollege.org for putting it together. What kind of learning style to you have?
