There is a lot of noise right now suggesting SEO is dead and AI is everything. That is not what we see in the data, and it is not how we approach the work.
Google’s AI Overviews and AI Mode draw on the same index that powers regular Google search. Gemini and Google Maps both lean on your Google Business Profile. ChatGPT, Perplexity and Microsoft Copilot pull from the open web and from search indexes like Bing’s, including your website, review sites and directories. Strong local SEO fundamentals feed all of them.
The difference is in how the results are delivered. Traditional SEO earns you a link in a list. AI search visibility means being named, cited or recommended inside an answer. The large language models behind these tools tend to cite sources that are clear, specific, consistent and backed up by other trusted sources. That is exactly what good local SEO has always aimed for.
So when we talk about AI optimization, we mean local SEO done thoroughly, with extra attention on the things AI systems rely on most:
- Clear, specific service and location pages
- A complete, accurate Google Business Profile
- Consistent business information everywhere it appears
- Schema markup that labels your business, services and service area in a way machines can read
- Answer-ready content that responds to real customer questions
- Reviews, case studies and outside mentions that build trust
The upside is that this work doesn’t compete with your SEO. Every improvement helps you on Google, in Maps and in AI-generated answers at the same time.
